How to motivate yourself!

Motivation is something that is very important in our day to day lives. It provides the 'get up and go' that makes us get out of bed in the morning. It can also help us to make positive changes in our lives, such as adopting a greener lifestyle for instance. Motivation is a very personal thing however and we each have slightly different things that make us feel motivated. However, here are some 'rules' that might help you to increase yours:

Firstly, it is important to have a major goal but it is equally important to have smaller goals in-between that are realistic for you to achieve. When you can achieve these you will have more motivation to go after the big goals.

Finish what you've started. Quitting is a learned behaviour that can quickly become a habit! Break this by finishing tasks - however small - and you will feel much more motivated.

Socialise with positive people who share your interests. These people can give you a boost when you're feeling down and lacking in motivation. If you hang around with negative people or habitual quitters you are likely to behave in the same way.

Increase your knowledge. A little bit of knowledge about something will give you the motivation to learn more.

Take risks. Failure can also be a motivating tool as it encourages us to strive to be successful and learn from mistakes. Obviously there are also times when it will prove a risk worth taking and we wont fail!
